Hier was in meinem Reiseführer steht (Drucklegung Januar 2004, Infos sind aber teilweise älter):
The high-speed hydrofoil passenger ferries Beetle 2 and JB depart every day at 1400 for Hakata (port of Fukuoka), whisking you across the channel in comfort in about three hours. While the schedule is apt to change somewhat, these ferries generally run every day at 1215 and 1545, with the addition of four times a week at 0845 and 1400. The adult fare runs 85,000 Won one-way and 170,000 Won round-trip; the return portion may be used for up to six months. Discounts are offered for students, children, and infants. Get tickets and information at the International Ferry Terminal ticket window or call the Korea Marine Express company office in Busan (tel. 051/465-6111) or Hakata (tel. 092/281-2315)
Den Teil mit den Abfahrtszeiten verstehe ich nicht, widerspricht sich ja irgendwie. Der Reiseführer nennt noch eine Fähre, die offenbar auch Autos transportiert und Nachts fährt (Montag, Mittwoch und Freitags um 19:00 Uhr von Busan, Dienstags, Donnerstags und Sonntags von Hakata) und zwischen 75.000 Won und 150.000 Won pro Person kostet. Die Fahrt dauert 8 Stunden, da man aber mitten in der Nacht ankommt, muss man bis 8:30 warten, bis man das Schiff verlassen kann. Die Korea Ferry Company, die diese Linie betreibt, erreichst du in Busan unter der 051/466-7799, in Seoul unter der 02/775-2323 oder Hakata 092/262-2323. Die Nummer in Hakata wird wohl eine japanische Nummer sein. 
Zu den Visa-Sachen habe ich keine Informationen. Auch dran denken, dass du ja nach Japan einreisen dürfen musst.
